Theory & Hazard Perception Test DVSA ADI Part 1
DVSA ADI Part 1 consists of two elements:
- The Theory Test
- The Hazard Perception Test
Both elements must be passed at the same time; failing either element means that the whole test has to be retaken.
The Theory Test consists of 100 multiple choice questions on a variety of topics, including:
- Road Procedure
- Traffic Signs & Signals
- Pedestrians
- Car Control
- Mechanical Knowledge
- Law
- Driving Test
- Disabilities
- Instructional Techniques
- Publications
The Hazard Perception Test consists of 14 video clips featuring 15 scorable hazards which must be identified
The Hazard Perception Test is not a test of your reaction time, it is a test of anticipation.
The earlier each hazard is identified the higher the score.
Thorough preparation for ADI Part 1 will help with your subsequent qualification and your role as a driving instructor:
- A sound theoretical knowledge will help your own driving, and therefore help with the ADI Part 2 Test Of Driving Ability.
- The ADI Part 3 Test Of Instructional Ability is assessing you as a teacher, any weaknesses in subject knowledge could affect the result.
- Teaching real people needs expert knowledge of your subject, clients need to understand your explanations, and clients can ask what can seem like difficult questions, unless your knowledge is good.
