A Driving Instructor Trainee Licence is an option that can be used as part of the qualification process in becoming a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Appoved Driving Instructor, DVSA ADI
It is not compulsory to take the trainee licence option, you can continue your training for the DVSA ADI Part 3 Test without a trainee licence.
The Trainee Licence should be seen as a method of gaining more experience, and being better prepared before taking the DVSA ADI Part 3.
Advantages of using a Trainee Licence
- The purpose of a Trainee Licence is to gain more practical experience by teaching real pupils in order to supplement your training before taking the ADI Part 3 Test.
- You will have a choice of clients that you already know, that you can use for your DVSA ADI Part 3 test.
Disadvantages of using a Trainee Licence
- If you do not pass the DVSA ADI Part 3 Test within 6 months you are out of a job until you do pass
- If you fail the Part 3 Test three times you are out of a job
- Some Trainees fall into the trap of thinking short term, and aiming only to fill their diary to earn money rather than train and prepare for the DVSA ADI Part 3 Test.
- Some Driving Schools think short term and just use the Trainee as another franchisee and neglect the training and preparation for the DVSA ADI Part 3 Test.
Using a Trainee Licence Successfuly
Some driving schools, and some trainees treat the Trainee Licence as a means of working and earning money.
They lose sight of the fact that there is the matter of having to pass the DVSA ADI Part 3 test.
As a consequence the focus becomes about earning money short term and not about preparing for the DVSA ADI Part 3 Test.
