How Do I Qualify As A DVSA ADI?
How Do I Qualify As A Driver And Vehicle Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor?
To become a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor, DVSA ADI you have to pass three examinations:
- The Theory Test and The Hazard Perception Test, ADI Part 1
- The Test of Driving Ability, ADI Part 2
- The Test of Instructional Ability, ADI Part 3
Once the ADI Part 1 Examination has been passed you have a maximum of two years in which to pass the other two examinations, if you do not pass them within two years you have to start again with ADI Part 1.
The ADI Part 2 and ADI Part 3 Examinations are both subject to a three attempt rule, if either is failed three times you are not allowed another attempt, you have to wait until your two year period is over and then start again with ADI Part 1.
Allowing for time to train and for waiting times for each examination it is likely to take a minimum of approximately four months to become completely qualified, however to achieve this you will have to make your course quite intensive, and you may need to travel to test centres further afield to obtain early appointments.
You can of course take up to the maximum two year period if required.
As an average the majority of people probably take between Six and Twelve months to qualify, especially if they are having to fit their studies around their existing job.
To help preparations for the test of instructional ability, ADI Part 3, it is possible to get experience of teaching real clients by using a trainee licence.
The trainee licence must be used in conjunction with a driving school, and is subject to rules regarding training received before the licence commences and for the duration of the trainee licence.
